This is a great move to use against caster more than it is melee, oddly enough.

If I charge at a caster, I'm either stuck or feared, and I stay that way from 100% to 0%. I don't do enough damage between that brief moment of me being in their grill and me being cc'd in some way. With this, and lucky timing of my instant attacks and a heavy two-hander, sometimes I can kill them before I get pwned with deathcoil/fear or frostnova and pyroblast.

Not to say it doesn't work well on Rogues/Hunters/Paladin/etc.

This is one of the most devastating technique, both to the attackers and the warriors themselves. Make sure that there is a healer nearby, in case if the mobs/players overpower you (since you take 20% more damage). Use this spell in combination with whirlwind and cleave, in order to do maximum damage and to end the fight quickly.

You best make sure that you're either gonna end the fight quickly (for PvP) or that you don't get aggro (for PvE), because this stacked with zerker stance means you're taking 30% more damage than you would by default, and that's from all sources.

Though this is a leet-hax-pwnzorz move you pay survivability for damage.
If you pop all you have being a fury warrior (Deathwish, bloodrage, recklessness, etc.) Then in zerker stance you are taking tons of dmgz.

However, when you see the damage and crits you'll forget the fact that you are at 10% of health and about to die...

Oh well, atleast you killed the mage with the satisfation of knowing that you pwned him =D.

If you have the arms talent "impale" and use the fury talent "death wish" along with the Beserker power up in AV and WSG with "sweeping strikes" you should be able to get some pretty hard blows once you hit that recklessness key. whirlwind is key to this ability in pvp also.

But remmeber add all these power ups and you get a devistating 45% increase in damage done to you.

20% dmg taken doesnt matter if ur doing raidbosses, u will die anyway, the reason not to use it might be that u havent got enough threat reduction and u get aggro and you die. If your going to use this agains bosses, atleast wait until the tank has alot of aggro, maybe do it when the boss is at 20% and u start using execute. And it is also important that you have 100 rage when u activate recklessness so that u do the most damage possible in those 15 secs.

In pvp 20% doesnt matter, the thing that matters is that u get your target down fast, agains mages for example, u dont get alot of hits before ur dead, beacause he can easily cc u so u better get him down fast.

if you are being ganked by 4 mobs. switch to berserker stance. then activate this then use whirlwind, after that do a few cleaves and 1 more whirlwind before recklessness wears off. and you can serouisly damage those 4 mobs. and recklessness also gives 100% crit chance, plus the 3% from berserker stance plus the crit chance of your default character and you can end up with 113% cri chance :)

It has too long cooldown but still is very usefull sometimes in pvp. For example i did it in coombitation with blood fury and Battle shout against an priest. He was dead in seconds not even had time to heal himself ( he was probably disc, with no CoH )

People tend to regard Improved Disciplines as useless, but, as PvE, I find it excellent, because it allows me to use this ability on every boss fight, or on something like Gruul every other attempt. Combined with the 6 sec duration increase (to 21 sec) and Death Wish, it allows me to cause a massive amount of damage in very little time.

Simply this is a face wrecking ability, a healer is recommended but it does win WSG games, if your sick of being stuck on 2 caps and they're turtling get some people go in and pop this and win the game.

Also a very nice tool to make sure your oponent knows your sick of them. If someone messes with me too much in a BG... well i rush in and pop this bad boy and see if I can't knock them out in 2 shots.

This, from a warrior's stand point, is an improvement. Its a sixth of the cooldown, only draw back is that it effects secial attacks too. To be noted, this WILL procc Bloodsurge if you use Bloodthirst (% chance to reduce casting time of slam by 100%), and your Slam will crit too. Will also help you procc Rampage

i think they will buff the recklessness again beacause at the moment it is too inferior to other similar abilities (shield wall/retalliation)
3 yellow crits every 3.5 mins (fury specced) is really too little of a buff.
consider that you will have more than 30% crit already, so it is like giving you 2 yellow crits (you would have crit 1 attack out of 3 without using recklessnes eitherway)
and damage taken is increased by 20%?

really atm its nothing compared to shield wall and retalliation...

A tank popping this, then using Thunder Clap, then Shockwave, then another Thunder Clap, means he has MASSIVE aoe threat, since all 3 crit.

(You have to shift to Zerker Stance to pop Reck, then go back to Defensive)

Does the 20% damage modifier persist after 3 special attacks are made? If so, is this a buff (such that it can be removed by right-clicking the icon)?

In other words, do you take 20% additional damage for the whole 12 seconds, or does the additional damage taken expire upon reaching 3 special attacks?

Recklessness states that it increases your chance to critically hit with all special abilities (yellow), but it has no effect on heroic throw.

Would it be smart NOT to pop it when the boss is at about 30-50% hp and wait till the boss is at >20, so my executes do crits? I usually poped it mid boss fight pre-WotLK, but I'm wondering if it would be better to wait.

I'm not sure if this is a recent change, but Recklessness actually works better than what the tooltip states.

If you have the buff active, it will only consume charges on special attacks that would not otherwise be crits.

So you get the three guaranteed crit special attacks, plus whatever crits you would normally get.

Example:

Warrior casts Recklessness
Uses Bloodthirst - crit - 1 charge consumed
Uses Whirlwind - double crit - 1 charge consumed
Uses Bloodthirst - crit - no charge consumed (this was 'rolled' as a crit therefore the last remaining recklessness charge was not used)

It's obvious that the mechanics involved are more complex as previous iterations of the skill, as old recklessness used to simply add 100% to crit chance on the character screen (current version does not).

This effect can have negative consequences in PVP, as if you activate reck then go on a 'normal' crit streak, the buff (and the +20% damage taken debuff) can be active for longer than you would like.

Edit: Just tested it and now know that infact it does trigger the GCD. So much to macroing this skill with Mortal Strike/Blood Thirst for a fast crit button!

You know, I never really paid attention to what the icon was, until I came across a 2 years old thread in the randomness forum (don't ask me why).

If you look on opposite sides of the red. And look closely, it's actually a blade splitting someone in half.

Also causes next three Bladestorm hits to crit, three 1.5k Bladestorm crits on 60 warrior its amazing. Bladestorm and recklessness press to kill everything within melee range :D

In 4.0.6 PTR patch notes it is said that Recklessness will be changed to increase critical strike chance by 50% for 12 seconds instead of giving three quaranteed criticals.

v4.0.6: Recklessness is really lethal in arms pvp now. It has no global cooldown, so you can macro it to Bladestorm (just make sure you are in Berserker Stance first)... along with Sweeping Strikes you'll get a TON of 150% weapon damage crits (helps to have at least 2 targets so that Sweeping Strikes works). Just remember that you will go down easily since you are taking 20% more damage for 12 seconds (sometimes it's better to just right-click the buff to turn it off if you are taking too much damage).

In regards to PvE, fury warriors will probably not forget to use this (and time it with cooldowns). Arms however, may forget, despite this being a huge dps cooldown, increasing dps by possibly 60/70% for its duration due to the value of crit for arms warriors. With good timing, you can switch to beserker stance, use this, and switch back again, within a global cooldown to avoid delaying your rotation (or even just use an ability in beserker stance while you're there).

Depending on fight duration, you may only get to use this once, or possibly twice. Time it accordingly. Ideally, you want to use this once at the start with other cooldowns, and once during the execute phase, preferably with deadly calm, trinket procs, potions, enrage, and collosus smash to spam 100k+ execute crits.

This ability, is at the very core of Warrior burst in PvP right now. This is what allows Warrior's to disintegrate their foes, this is the most important piece of the "One Shot Macro". Blizzard is mistaken thinking that it's Colossus Smash, but no, it's Recklessness. Recklessness combined with a +STR Trinket and Colossus Smash, makes for ungodly burst, even against high Resil targets.

Currently on the PTR for 4.2 Recklessness (as well as Shield Wall and Retaliation) have no more stance requirement. I imagine it'll work well alongside Deadly Calm.

Patch 4.2.0:
Recklessness and Deadly Calm can no longer be used at the same time. One cannot be used while the other is active, but using one does not put the other on its full cooldown.
Retaliation, Recklessness and Shield Wall no longer have stance requirements.

Interesting strategy I'd like to share when facing a warrior using this in PvP:

If you have a disarm ability, use it immediately on the warrior when they activate this, making him unable to capitalize on this ability and YOU get the benefit of 20% extra damage :)

Worked very well for me last night as i fought a very well geared fury warrior one on one in Arena. Hope this gives some insight!

The tooltip is still not up to date !
As of this patch (5.0.5) you still are granted immune to fear. I've no idea why this isn't written anymore !
Don't try to fear a warrior with this buff, will not work :D

Recklessness now grants you immunity to FEAR ! It is not stated in the tooltip.

Changed in patch 5.2

OLD: Recklessness - Grants your special attacks an additional 50% chance to critically hit. Lasts 12 sec. (5 min c/d)
NEW: Recklessness - Grants your special attacks an additional 30% chance to critically hit. Lasts 12 sec. (3 min c/d)

The Glyph has been changed as well:
OLD: Glyph of Recklessness - Decreases the critical chance of Recklessness by 20% but increases its duration by 50%
NEW: Glyph of Recklessness - Decreases the critical chance of Recklessness by 12% but increases its duration by 50%

Unglyphed, Recklessness it offers 30% crit for 12 seconds every 180 seconds.
Glyphed, Recklessness it offers 18% crit for 18 seconds every 180 seconds.

Strange things is, I didn't see this in the 5.2 patch notes...could be that I'm blind.
