1/2 way through wotlk my computer's sound went out. So no vent, no ingame sound... But I still raided just fine as a healer. You just get very aware of your surroundings and what is happening. When I got a new one for cata, I had a hard time playing because i found all the "sound" to be just noise and distracting. Just like a scary movie, turn off the sound and suddenly there is no stress, no anxiety, just calming healing and interrupting rotations...
Weekly maintenance doesn't bother me. It reminds me that there's life outside my house too! (kidding but you get the point)I prefer to raid with my WoW sound turned off. I may listen to the boss emotes my first time encountering them, but afterwardsthe sound is turned off again. I find that all the spell sounds, boss emotes, character speech (that spell is not ready kind of stuff), compiled together and on top of vent chatter as well to be a little much. Honestly, my brain hurts trying to process and individualize each sound bit that I hear. O.oWhile leveling or farming I may turn the sound on; the music in some areas is just too cool to pass up imo.On the subject of guys playing girl toons and vice-versa, personally I'm a female IRL that prefers to play female characters. Call me weird but I like to feel a "connection" so to speak to my toons, and I just feel kind of odd playing male characters. Really, it's kind of fun to me to try and figure out what genderthe people are that I come in contact with day to day in game. To watch females take on a moremasculine attitude while playing male toons, or a guy to take on a more feminine one, or even a guy totally being a guy ona female toon is entertaining! Who says you don't RP, not even just a lilttle? =pAnd...
